Orissa bagged one gold and one silver medals in the Sub-junior National Boxing Championship at Shilong, Meghalaya today. Akshya Nayak of Puri won the gold in 30 kg boys-12 years category, beating Gurpreet Singh of Punjab in the final by 5-0 points. Earlier in the semi-finals, he got the better of Alok Singh of Madhya Pradesh 18-11.
Satya Prakash Panigrahi of Bhubaneswar claimed the silver in 57 kg boys-14 years category after being beaten in the final by an opponent from Manipur. Overall, Orissa boxers bettered their performance in the previous National championship, which fetched them one silver medal through Raju Singh.
Medal winning boxers credited their success to coaches Padmanav Patra and Sudarshan Sahoo. Earlier in 2009 Nationals at Aurangabad, Kuldeep Yadav and Mahes Yadav bagged a gold each for Orissa.
